Seven accused, who were arrested by the police in relation with the death of Korimayum Abdullah, have been remanded in police custody till June 4 after they were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Thoubal via online mode on Wednesday.
The accused persons produced before the court for the second time are Tabashum, 19, daughter of Md Abdul Hakim from Keibung Sana Sibi Leirak; Tabashum’s elder sister Sana and her husband Md Mujibur from Lilong Nungei Khunou; Abdullah’s three friends who accompanied him the last, namely Md Bakshar, son of Yusuk Ali and Md Sajish Khan, son of Md Hellaluddin from Yairipok Ningthounai; and Md Tarique, son of Md Serajuddin from Yairipok Tulihal Moinam; along with one Md Aslam, 30, son of Abdul Kalam.
Korimayum Abdullah from Yairipok Changamdabi Makha Leikai along with his three friends went for a meal after he was invited by Tabashum’s elder sister Sana at her residence at Lilong Nungei on May 16, after which he went missing only to be found dead at Imphal River on morning of May 22.

Upon receiving news that the accused will be produced before the court, people of Yairipok Changamdabi thronged the front of the court complex of CJM Thoubal till late afternoon. But, the police produced the accused before the judge via online mode, praying for remand in police custody.
The JAC formed in connection with the death had met with Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his office on May 26, where the chief minister agreed to meet with the demands of the JAC.

The demands of the JAC included submission of the charge sheet in regard to Abdullah’s alleged murder within three months and to punish those found guilty accordingly. It demanded to provide an apt government job to the bereaved family; for the arrested accused to be locked up at different police stations; and to commence an enquiry on the responsible police station who allegedly delayed in carrying out their duties.
