950 cases of liquor disposed of at Khongsang, Tamenglong

A huge consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) seized along Imphal-Jiribam National Highway amid lockdown was disposed of on Saturday at Khongsang police station area, Tamenglong, police said.

A total of about 950 cases of IMFL which was carried along with edible mustard oil were seized by a team of Nungba police station on Monday. Police said that the said liquors were being carried in a 12-wheeler Tata truck bearing registration number NL01N-9178.

After a case was registered at the police station concerned, the whole liquors were disposed of at an area under the jurisdiction of Khongsang police station on Saturday.

Disposal of liquors was conducted under officer-in-charge (OC) Noney district, excise station, A Birakishor Singh in presence of OC, Nungba police station, O Premchand; OC Khongsang police station, Namdingpou kamei, president of Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation Manipur (RNSOM), Kilongdi Golmei; chairman Khongsang village authority and youth and women leaders of the area.

Later, the disposed liquors were dumped at the spot using excavators. The driver and the said vehicle have been detained and are under the custody of Nungba police station for further necessary legal action.

Mentioned may be made that Chief Minister N Biren had announced to stop importing of non-essential items during lockdown and the state had been a dry state under Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 with an exemption granted to schedule caste and scheduled tribe communities to brew liquor for traditional purposes.
