4th ‘Meitei Pangal Khunthok Ningsing Thouram’ held

The event signifies the historic period during the reign of the then King Meidingu Khagemba when Muslims were given Meitei women in marriage and land for settlement in Manipur, a release stated.

The 4th ‘Meitei Pangal Khunthok Ningsing Thouram’ organised by the Meipak Ningthou Committee was held at Khomidok Mamang Leikai in Imphal East on Monday.

The programme was toned-down owing to the prevailing situation in the state, stated a release. The event signifies the historic period during the reign of the then King Meidingu Khagemba when Muslims were given Meitei women in marriage and land for settlement in Manipur which eventually strengthened ties between the two communities, it stated.  

Attendees at the event also expressed concern over the prevailing communal conflict in the state and urged both sides to resolve the issue in an amicable manner, it mentioned. They also appealed to the Central government to chalk out necessary measures to restore peace and normalcy in the state at the earliest.

AMESCO president Loitongbam Ibotombi, convenor of Meipak Ningthou Committee, Sayeed Siraj Meraimayum, advisor MMWO, Adil Yumkhaibam, president UMPO, Tayeebur Leisangkhong, general secretary United Club Organisation and convenor of Forum for Restoration, Islam Makakcha were among those present at the event, it added.
