Preliminary testings were carried out and more than 60 suspected cases were detected, he said, adding that the cases are mostly from sub divisions like Singnat, Henglep, Saikot, etc.

There could be more cases but authorities are unable to carry out extensive tests due to constraint of funds, he said, adding that financial constraint has affected their fight against dengue.

The samples have been sent to JNIMS and RIMS at imphal for final confirmation, he added.

Saying that there are no specific medicines for dengue with the best way being  prevention, he appealed to all to cover their water tanks and use repellent and mosquito nets when sleeping.

The mosquitoes breed in stagnant waters and also on the leaves of vegetables, he said. These mosquitoes are mostly active during dawn or dusk, he mentioned.

He informed that the authorities had been carrying out fogging and blood testings at residences. They received help from philanthropic organisations, he added.

He said the testing for dengue is expensive at private clinics and urged the public to avail free testing at the district hospital and also at IDPS center located inside CMO complex.
