2022 Manipur Assembly election mandate a 'manipulated' mandate: Congress party

The silence of the ROs and SPs in the commencement of crime and intimidation by supporters of BJP, clearly shows that the entire missionaries of election were explicitly supporting the BJP candidates, the Congress said.

The Congress party on Saturday alleged that the mandate of the people in the 12th Manipur Assembly Election is a totally manipulated mandate by EVM, ECI, state administration, police and polling staffs on behalf of the BJP.

Manipur in-charge of AICC, Bhakta Charan Das briefed mediapersons at the office of MPCC in Imphal West and said, “We respect the verdict of the people of Manipur however it is not a true mandate.”

He said that the Congress took serious note of the way the EVMs were manipulated in different constituencies and the manipulation of the postal ballots of Wabagai AC.

As the BJP has used the support of the Kuki and Naga militant groups to intimidate and threaten the voters, the upcoming government should settled the demands of Kuki militants at the earliest and disclose the content of the Indo-Naga peace talk agreement and settled it in a time bound manner, the AICC leader demanded.

Stating that the Congress believed that the upcoming government will concentrate on the development of Manipur and come out with the expectation of the public, he said the Congress will strictly monitor the activities of the government.

Informing that review of all the Congress candidates have been taken and have examined every aspects on Saturday, he said that a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be held very soon to discuss the current political scenario of the party.   

Despite the loss in the election, the Congress party will continue to take up issues of Manipur accessible with a new energy and start preparation for the upcoming 2024’s Lok Sabha election.

President of MPCC N Loken on behalf of the Congress party extended gratitude to the people of Manipur, who stood for the Congress despite facing many intimidations and terrorised atmosphere.

“The Congress party will always stand for Manipur and its people in every issue,” he added.

As many as 53 INC candidates contested in the 12th Assembly Election of Manipur which concluded on March 10. Of the 53 candidates, only five emerged victorious.

Six of the sitting MLAs of the Congress party, including MPCC president N Loken of Nambol constituency and CWC member Gaikhangam of Nungba constituency were included in the defeated list.

Surprisingly, the Wangoi AC’s INC candidate Salam Joy had declared to support his rival BJP candidate Oinam Lukhoi just few days before the poll. However the BJP candidate was defeated by his rival NPP candidate K Loken.
