Schools, colleges closed in major cities and states across India

Amid the fresh surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, schools and colleges are closed in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Tenlangana, West Bengal, Haryana, Goa and Karnataka among others.

Several cities and states in India have imposed night curfew and announced closure of schools and colleges in view of the Omicron spread and surge in Covid cases across the country.

Schools and colleges are closed in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Tenlangana, West Bengal, Haryana, Goa and Karnataka among others.

Delhi announced closure of all schools from January 3 until further order, while in Mumbai, schools are closed till January 31. Schools in Jaipur are closed till January 9.

All schools is Haryana are closed till January 12. The Uttar Pradesh  government on Tuesday ordered closure of all schools up to Class 10 till January 15.

In Bengaluru, schools and pre-university colleges, except for Classes 10 and 12 students, are ordered closed for two weeks.

The Tamil Nadu government ordered closure of schools for classes 1 to 8 till January 10. In West Bengal, schools and colleges are closed until further notice.

In Northeast India, while schools and colleges are yet to be closed, night curfew has been clamped in Manipur, Assam and Meghalaya. 

Omicron cases in India rose to 2,135, while the daily COVID-19 cases across the country surged to 58,097 on Wednesday.
