A unique cultural ceremony of Manipur, ‘Sanamahi Cheng Hongba’ as an annual calendar event of ‘Lainingthou Sanamahi’ was organised by Uttra Shanglen at Sana Konung, Imphal on Friday amid COVID-19 lockdown.
The ceremony, observed as an annual event, is performed on a full moon (Purnima) night of ‘Inga’ as per the lunar calendar. It is performed with participation from families living in the Kangla. For such ritual performance, the king’s presence is required.
Manipur titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba; king of ‘angom’ clan; priest and priestess; members of WASDA and others attended the occasion. As a part of the occasion, rice and other items were offered at a local deity and prayers were offered to overcome COVID-19 pandemic across the world.
Owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 and following the protocol and guidelines of the government, the ritual was conducted low key.
