A Three-day Manipuri Cultural Festival organised by Chana Lukhoi Art Centre (CLAC), Chana Mayai Leikai and Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur commenced at Chana Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East on Wednesday.
In a release, PAWF stated that as part of the ceremony the attendees paid floral tributes to Konung Pena singer late Khaidem Mani, followed by a ‘Pena Phamshak’ and ‘Pung Cholom’ performance dedicated to late Khaidem Mani.
PAWF life member Waikhom Bihari gave the welcoming address, followed by CLAC secretary Chana Lembi’s speech on the objective of the three days cultural festival, it added.
The event was attended by Sawombung Zilla Parishad member Irungbam Rabichandra, Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, Sahitya Akademi awardee Saratchand Thiyam, along with playwright and Meetei Puya narrator Chana Lukhoi, it mentioned.
Speaking on the occasion, playwright Chana Lukhoi highlighted the importance of the conservation of the traditional cultures of the Meetei community, and said that a community’s existence is defined by its cultures.
PAWF Manipur president Naroibam Khamba Luwang said that since its inception, PAWF had been organising Manipuri Cultural Festivals in Manipur and Bangladesh. He extended hopes for the cultural festival to strengthen the bond between the artists and the writers, it added.
