The Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee is all set to organise the 15th State-Level Manipur Pineapple Festival, 2022 cum Celebration of 75 Years of Pineapple (Kew variety) Cultivation at Khousabung Region in Churachandpur district.
The festival will be held at the Dr Kalam Ground, Bunglon High School Campus in Churachandpur for two days (August 19 and 20) and a giant size monolith will be erected to mark the 75 years of pineapple cultivation, said spokesperson of the committee Ng Sang while announcing the festival at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Monday.
The first-ever cultivation of pineapple in Khousabung was done by Songpu Gangte with the plantation of 40 suckers, he said, adding now the Khousabung region is able to produce as many as 9,000 metric tons of pineapple every year by around 500 farmers.
Stating that due to limited space only about 100 farmers will be given the opportunity to put up stalls during the celebration, he said willing farmers can contact the organiser if they are willing to put up stalls.
Moreover, there will be "Manipur Pineapple Show Contest" and a "Manipur Pineapple Queen Contest" ahead of Farmers' Seminar and Free Medical Camp as part of the celebration, he added.
The committee invited all to join the festival with zeal and enthusiasm.
