Alleging the present BJP-led government of the state as the most irresponsible government and disrespectful to Constitution of India, All India Congress Committee in-charge of Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das appealed to the people to vote for Congress party to ensure development, peace and tranquillity in the state.

Bhakta Charan Das who is in the state for the ensuing by-election stated the same during a press conference held at Congress Bhawan, BT Road on Tuesday.

Former union minister, Bhakta Charan Das said that Manipur despite being ruled by same party (BJP) with that of central government, is confronted with various problems and challenges. However, not a single issue is addressed properly till date by the government, he stated.

He maintained that the state would never witness any changes until the present government is removed.

Pointing out that Manipur is among the most COVID-19 affected states in the country, Das contended that no regular health minister is appointed. The news of nine people succumbing to COVID-19, which is recorded as highest death on single day, clearly exposed total failure and mismanagement in combating the ongoing pandemic, he added.

He also questioned why the BJP government is not providing free testing facilities to the poor people in government hospitals and testing centres.

Das further charged that there has been no employment generation in government departments since the formation of the present government. “Such condition has made many employable youth jobless and their future being thrown in complete disarray,” he stated.

As per the report of the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released on January 7, 2020, Manipur is among the top five poorest states in terms of Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) per capita, he added.

He also charged that the BJP government has been in power by destroying the essence of constitutional propriety and morality of the Constitution of India. The fact was already vindicated by different judgment of the courts. “But the party is trying to retain its power by buying MLAs. The state will always lag behind if it is going to be ruled in this manner,” Das said.

Former chief minister, Okram Ibobi said that MLAs resigning before completing their term is the most shameful deed as it is similar to not fulfilling five year people’s mandate. But on contrary, some leaders of the state are claiming those resigned MLAs as “hero”, he said and mockingly questioned, “What can we expect from such leaders who can call resigned MLA as hero in their own interest?”

Expressing confidence of winning the by-elections by Congress party, he said that people are fed up of this government which was formed in a forceful manner. The Congress party expect that people will surely vote for the party. The party will also not break the trust that they keep in Congress once it comes into power, he added.

President of MPCC Moirangthem Okendro and Congress MLA K Meghachandra were also present.
