College teachers on Monday staged a sit-in protest at the campus of DM College of Science, GP Women's College and Manipur College, extending support to the demand for 7th pay raised by Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association, Manipur (FEGOCTA).
The government college teachers continued their sit-in protest on Monday for the third time since January 29, as per the decision of FEGOCTA, a release issued by general secretary of FEGOCTA N Somorendro stated. The decision to hold protests was taken against the failure of the government to issue the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 for the government college teachers, it stated.
It is unfortunate that the order of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 is not yet issued though the cabinet had approved it five months ago, it added.
Asserting that failure to implement 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 is clear neglect of national higher education policy in Manipur, it stated that agitation will continue till the cabinet approval of the UGC 7th Pay is implemented.
It questioned why only the college teachers are deprived of 7th Pay and for how long the cabinet decision will be “dishonored” by the Higher Education department.
The college teachers of both hill and valley request the chief minister to immediately address the grievances of the college teachers and issue orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018, it added.
