A lecture series organised by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur in Imphal on Friday stressed the need to reform the institutions which have been dominated by developed nations in the world and India’s conviction of keeping the Indo-pacific region free, open and inclusive to all.
The lecture series was held under the External Affairs Ministry’s Videsh Niti Distinguished Lecture Series on January 6 at its city campus in Mantripukhri, Imphal.
In the event, former ambassador Anil Wadhwa delivered the lecture on “Recent Developments in the Indo-Pacific Region and Challenges for India” followed by a lecture on “Career Opportunities in Indian Foreign Services” by former ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa.
Wadhwa stressed the need to reform the institutions which have been dominated by developed nations in the world and highlighted the importance of focusing on connectivity in the Northeast region, India’s gateway to South East Asia. He emphasised the crucial role of India’s Act East policy and its influence on the economic and political situation of the region.
He then pointed out India’s dual response of achieving economic resilience and preserving national security to the recent developments in the Indo-pacific region pertaining to new and emerging technologies, climate change etc.
Talking about career opportunities in IFS, Deepa Wadhwa, highlighted the process of joining IFS and encouraged the students of IIIT, Manipur and Manipur University, who attended the lecture, to keep themselves informed regarding India’s foreign policies and to keep IFS as an option as many students from both technical and medical profession now opt for this prestigious profession that deals with the external affairs of India in terms of politics, economy, culture, and international law involving great responsibilities for the country.
The lecture series was presided by IIIT director Prof Krishnan Baskar and Dr Nongmeikapam Kishorjit, HoD, Dept of Computer Science and Engineering, IIIT Manipur, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Lecture series was coordinated by Dr Sanjib Choudhury, HoS (Academic), IIIT Manipur who also gave the welcome address, IIT Manipur said in a release.
