The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced revised eligibility norms for admission to engineering education for the next academic year. The move is seen as a partial rollback to its earlier decision that offers flexibility to admit students to various undergraduate engineering and technology courses.
According to the revised AICTE norms issued on Tuesday, Physics and Mathematics at the high school level are mandatory for students seeking to pursue engineering and technology UG degree programmes. As many as 18 of the 29 recognised engineering and technology degree courses at the UG level have mandated Physics and Maths at 10+2 level.
The admission norms issued in 2021 allowed students to pursue UG degree courses in engineering and technology, even without studying Physics and Mathematics at the higher secondary level. It, however, offered remedial bridge courses to cope in the respective classes.
