The Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) on Tuesday stated that educational institutions and centres of learning which mould and shape the character and attitude of human beings should be respected and free from monetary demands by UG groups.

It is highly condemnable to note that Kangleipak Communist Party-NRFM (KCP-NRFM), a valley based militant group served monetary demand to Churachandpur District Private Schools and Colleges Association (CDPSCA), ZRA stated in a release signed by its town commander major Robin Zomi. ZRA warns KCP-NRFM to immediately withdraw its demand, it stated.

It further stated that ZRA also got intelligence inputs that certain armed groups provide protection and shelter to some individuals engaging in anti-Zomi activities who were already terminated from the organisation. ZRA uged armed groups to keep away from persons indulging in anti-Zomi activities, it added.

ZRA recalled the bomb blast on March 12 at Central Lamka claiming the life of one Deepak Kumar of Bihar. On June 11, chief of MT Geltam Kammuanpau was kidnapped allegedly by KIA, a Non-SoO Kuki armed group, ZRA stated. The latest being the killing of Anand Gupta on the night of June 17 by KCP-NRFM group, it alleged.

“Some non-local businessmen received life threatening phone calls from the KCP-NRFM armed group and were even summoned to report at Imphal for best reason known to them. ZRA would not tolerate such anti- social elements and would protect everyone irrespective of caste, creed and tribe affiliation within its jurisdiction,” it stated.

ZRA warns any group not to recklessly indulge in perpetrating violence which can impair peace and security thereby creating fear psychosis among the general public, it stated. ZRA further appealed to the general public to extend their support and co-operation in maintaining peace and security in its operational area.
