Keeping in view the rapid increase in COVID-19 infections, the district magistrate of Ukhrul Joseph Pauline has declared the whole of Tusom Christian village (CV) as a containment zone on Wednesday
The village is situated in the extreme north of Ukhrul district and falls under Chingai assembly constituency, and nine villagers without any travel history had tested positive for COVID-19 last week. In order to contain further spread of the virus, Tusom CV was declared as a containment zone.
As part of the containment measures, the Ukhrul district magistrate sealed, barred entry and exit of population from Tusom CV and directed to initiate active surveillance of COVID-19 cases. Any person, institution and organisation found violating any of the above measures will be deemed as having committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the order added.
Meanwhile, on the very first day of the seven-day long curfew imposed by the state government, 23 persons tested positive for the virus in Ukhrul district. With seven patients being discharged on Wednesday, the total number of active cases stands at 86.
According to DSO Ukhrul, the cumulative number of positive cases in the district stands at 903 with 541 males and 362 females while the cumulative fatalities have surged to 23. The total number of inoculated persons in Ukhrul district has reached 22,303 out of which 17, 545 are first dose recipients while 4,758 have completed the two doses.
