Promoting community participation through collective efforts in the fight against pandemic COVID-19, the All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union (AMGSU) on Wednesday visited Kangpokpi and Senapati districts to distribute protective gear and motivate people staying in various institutional quarantine centres in the districts.
The 10-member team of AMGSU led by its president LB Adhikari visited the district administration office at DC Kangpokpi and provided one box of egg, 40 packets of water, four room sanitizers, five dozens of hand sanitizers, 300 pieces of face masks, two boxes of hand gloves and vegetables in the presence of DC Kangpokpi, Salam Somorjit and AC to DC Kaigoulal Kipgen.
The team also visited Senapati District Headquarters and provided similar items to the Senapati District COVID- 19 Committee which was received by ADC Senapati vice chairman John Hingba, Senapati Town Committee chairman, A John and ADC Senapati Member Trisho, including other committee members.
The AMGSU team also visited the institutional quarantine centres at Kanglatongbi, Saikul CHC and Eco Tourism Park, Thangal Surung in Saikul, Damdei Christian College and Sanatan Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Charhajare, EMRS in Gamnom Saparmeina, Emmanuel School, Haipi in Kalapahar, JNV Boys and Girls Hostel, BJP Office, Kangpokpi Government High School and Goma Devi High School in Kangpokpi and provided various relief items for the inmates and concerned authority.
The team also provided face masks and sanitizers to the roadside vegetable vendors at Mongpijang apart from providing protective gears to local senior journalist of Kangpokpi, Kaybie Chongloi. The team also visited Taphou Nepali Community Quarantine Centre and handed over the basic items to Surya Bantawa Rai and Binod Pradhan, both Executive Members of Senapati Gorkha Samaj.
Meanwhile, the student body extended its appreciation to ADC Sadar Hills for initiating Emergency Food Kiosk at Kangpokpi for thousands returnees while lauding Senapati District COVID-19 Task Committee in maintaining systematic food banks for the quarantines.
It also appreciated KCC, Tumnoupokpi and Motbung Village Authority in taking the voluntary responsibility of catering in the larger interest of humanity and inmates at various quarantine centres in Kangpokpi in particular while lauding the voluntary service of individuals and various organizations of Senapati.
The AMGSU finds an institutional quarantine centre at Eco Tourism Park in Thangal Surung as one of the best systematic centres in Saikul areas which is managed by the medical staff and the authority concerned, including village authority.
Adhikari, said that according to our findings lack of toilets and other basic necessities in the institutional quarantine centres has now been adaptable by the inmates by any means but delay in sample test results become the key issue which the government and concerned authority needs to seriously tackle in the swiftest way as many unfriendly situation are bound to pop up in the quarantine centres apart from the past many incidents.
The AMGSU also appeals to the authorities concerned not to mix up the new comers in the same centres after taking the test of existing inmates.
The student body also thanked all the frontline workers from the district administration of Kangpokpi and Senapati, medical departments, police departments and various civil voluntary organizations for selfless sacrificial in the fight against the pandemic COVID-19 and conveying gratitude to all who made their visits and donation possible while assuring to continue its humanitarian service amid the pandemic.
