Amid growing concerns over the spread of Omicron variant of COVID-19 globally, the Manipur government has also revised the COVID-19 protocol for international passengers arriving at Imphal airport.
Manipur Health director Dr K Rajo informed in a press briefing that a new protocol will be in place for international arrival at the Imphal airport from December 3 midnight. The director also informed that the infrastructure of the healthcare facilities in the state has been upgraded to the maximum possible extent.

1. Travellers must submit their travel history of the last 14 days
2. All travellers will be tested again on arrival at the airport in addition to mandatory production of Covid negative testing report (by RTPCR) conducted within 72 hours prior to taking the journey.
3. Passengers will be allowed to exit the airport only after testing negative. They will be tested again after eight days of arrival by RT-PCR.
4. 14 days compulsory home quarantine for all travellers.
5, If a traveller is tested positive, the person will be kept in a special isolation unit and a sample will be sent for genome sequencing.
A total of 23 persons have tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 across India. Of these 23 cases, 10 cases were detected in Maharashtra, nine in Jaipur (Rajasthan), two in Karnataka, one each in Gujarat and Delhi.
The Omicron variant, first reported in South Africa, was announced as a 'Variant of Concern" by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on November 26.
