NDPS Judge, staff to undergo Covid-19 test after accused tests positive

The registrar general of High Court of Manipur has requested state health director to conduct a COVID-19 test for special Judge ND&PS and staff, after an accused who was produced in the court (ND&PS) tested positive for coronavirus.

The COVID-19 patient has been identified as 42-year-old Lalnu Touthang.

It is learnt that Lalnu Touthang, who was arrested in connection with FIR number 12(7)2020 NAB PS U/S 21(c) /60(3) ND& PS Act and co-accused Denis Letjathang Chongloi were produced in the High Court of Manipur on Thursday.

After the two accused were remanded into judicial custody, the Judge was informed over the phone that one of the accused, Lalnu, tested positive for COVID-19. The accused were also produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal East on July 24.

During the time of production they (accused) sat together in the dock for about 20 minutes. Later, the Judge was informed that Denis had been handed over to Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and Lalnu was produced for testing before CMO, Imphal East and the result came positive for COVID-19.

During the court session, the judge, a driver and four staffs of the court and one staff from special court (NDPS)(FTC) Manipur and about two lawyers were present.

The ND&PS Judge in a statement intimated the state health director, requesting to conduct COVID-19 test for those staff and to disinfect the courtroom and its surrounding.
