Meghalaya: 25 new COVID-19 positive cases push state's tally to 13,506

There are 149 COVID-19 active cases in Meghalaya, while the death toll is 141.

Meghalaya's COVID-19 tally on Tuesday surged to 13,506 with 25 new positive cases, while the state has recorded two deaths in the new year, taking the death toll to 141, the state health department said.

A 59-year-old man, who was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on January 2 and tested positive for the virus, died the following day due to Covid-19 pneumonia with hypertension and nephropathy.

Another 49-year-old man died on January 3. He was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on December 23 after being referred from Nazareth Hospital.  He was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes with pulmonary tuberculosis, post-Covid pneumonia and sepsis, the health department said.

Of the new positive cases, 24 are from East Khasi Hills while one is from South Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, 12 more persons recovered from COVID-19 on Tuesday, pushing the number of recovered cases to 13,216. The new recoveries included six from West Garo Hills, five from East Khasi Hills and one from Ri-Bhoi, the health department said.

With the new recoveries, the number of active COVID-19 cases is now 149 and the recovery rate improved to 97.85 per cent, while the fatality rate is 1.04 per cent, the health department added.

East Khasi Hills has so far recorded the maximum covid fatalities in Meghalaya with 115 deaths and the district’s fatality rate is 1.38 per cent.

The health department further said that around 1,700 Covid tests were carried out in the state in the last 24 hours.
