Manipur's daily COVID-19 tally surges to 76; one more patient dies

Manipur continued to witness an uptrend in the daily COVID-19 cases as 76 more persons tested positive for the viral infection in a span of 24 hours, The state's COVID-19 tally surged to 1,26,088 on Saturday, official sources said.

As per a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room, among the 76 new COVID-19 cases, 71 persons (37 males and 34 females) are from the general population while five are personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

The new positive cases from the general population include 22 from Imphal East, nine from Imphal West, five from Thoubal, eight from, Bishnupur, six from Senapati, one from Noney, one from Ukhrul and 19 from Churachandpur. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

The state's COVID-19 death toll also reached 2,010 after one person from Imphal West died due to the infection.  The deceased had no comorbidities and was vaccinated with the first dose, it stated.

The state also recorded seven new recoveries, pushing the cumulative number of COVID-19 recoveries to 1,23,664. The recovery rate is 98.08 per cent and the number of active cases surged to 414 on Saturday, the release stated.

The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 23,43,309 ( first dose: 13,38,158 and  second dose: 10,05,151).

As of January 7, a total of 106 D-type oxygen cylinders and four B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
