Manipur's COVID-19 death toll crosses 300 mark; confirmed tally surges above 26,000 cases

Manipur's COVID-19 death toll crossed 300 mark as seven more patients succumbed to the illness while the confirmed tally surged above 26,000 cases with the report of 216 new positive cases on Sunday, the state health department said.

The death toll in the state, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room, is now 306 and the cumulative number of positive cases is 26,073, including 2,919 active cases and 22,848 recoveries.

Of the 216 new positive cases, 190 persons (97 males and 93 females) are from the general population while 26 are from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated.

The new positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West - 77, Imphal East - 47, Thoubal - 7, Bishnupur - 7, Kakching - 25, Ukhrul - 1, Tamenglong - 11, Tengnoupal - 4, Kangpokpi - 2, Kamjong - 2, Churachandpur - 3 and Noney - 4. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the state health department stated.

The new COVID-19 fatalities on Sunday included three from Imphal West, two from Imphal East, and one each from Thoubal and Bishnupur.

Meanwhile, the state's recovery rate stood at 87.63 per cent with the recovery of 193 more patients in a day, the release added.

The state health department further advised those in contact with a COVID-19 positive person to isolate themselves. In case of emergency, one can dial 24x7 Covid Common Control Room Number-1800-345-3818.
