Manipur's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 2,014

Two more COVID-19 patients died in Manipur, while 158 new cases were reported on Saturday.

COVID-19 claimed two more lives in Manipur in a span of 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 2,014, while 158 more persons tested positive for the disease, official sources said. 

The two deaths reported on Saturday are from Imphal West and Kangpokpi. Both deceased had comorbidities and one was vaccinated with the first dose and the other was not vaccinated, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases, 155 were from the general population while three were personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). From the general population, 49 from Imphal West, 39 from Churachandpur, 38 were from Imphal East, six from Thoubal, five from Chandel, four each from Bishnupur, Senapati and Kakching, three from Kangpokpi, two from Ukhrul and one from Tengnoupal, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

With these new positive cases, Manipur's COVID-19 caseload reached 1,26,979.

The state also recorded 37 new recoveries on Saturday, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 1,23,902. The state's recovery rate is 97.58 per cent while the number of active cases surged to 1,063, the release stated.

The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 23,81,712 (first dose: 13,58,792, second dose: 10,17,727 and precautionary dose: 5,193).

As of January 14, a total of  418 D-type oxygen cylinders and 104 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
