Manipur's COVID-19 daily positive tally surges back above 100-mark

After two consecutive days, one COVID-19 death was reported in Manipur on Wednesday.

Manipur on Wednesday reported one COVID-19 death and 104 new positive cases after registering a downtrend in daily spike below 50-mark for three days straight, according to the state health department.

With the new cases, the cumulative positive cases mounted to 27,827, while one male patient aged 76 years from Imphal East succumbed to COVID-19, taking the state's death toll to 338, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated on Wednesday.

The new positive cases included six personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces. The 98 new cases from the general population included 55 from Imphal West, 19 from Imphal east, one each from Chandel, Kangpokpi and Thoubal, eight each from Bishnupur and Kakching, two from Tamenglong and three from Churachandpur, the release stated.

All new positive cases are locals without any significant travel history, the release stated, adding that all necessary medical precautionary measures are in places.

In all, the release stated that 102 more patients have recovered. The recovery rate is now 93.54 per cent. With it, the total number of recovered patients has reached 26,030 and the active tally stood at 1,459.

The state health services appealed to the public to dial - 104 Manipur Mental Health Helpline from 9 am to 9 pm, for mental wellbeing. It also requested all international travellers who travelled to the state from November 25 to December 23, 2020 to dial the Common Covid Control Room No. 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers for further surveillance and monitoring.
