Manipur reports highest COVID-19 deaths in last 24 hours; death toll rises to 635

Manipur on Wednesday reported 23 more COVID-19 deaths and 582 new positive cases.

Manipur on Wednesday reported 23 more COVID-19 fatalities, its highest COVID-19 deaths so far, pushing the death toll to 635. The state's COVID-19 caseload also surpassed the 41000-mark on Wednesday, according to the latest update by the state health department.

With 582 new COVID-19 positive cases in a span of 24 hours, the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur surged to 41,265, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated. 

Of the 23 COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the state on Wednesday, six deaths each were reported from Bishnupur and Imphal East, five from Imphal West, two each from Kakching and Thoubal, and one each from Churachandpur and Ukhrul, as per the release.

The new positive cases included 570 from the general population while 12 are personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated. 

Among the new positive cases from the general population, Imphal West and Imphal East continued to report the highest number of daily positive cases with 278 and 137 cases respectively. Fifty-one new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Churachandpur, 26 from Bishnupur, 20 from Kakching, 19 from Thoubal, 11 from each Ukhrul and Chandel, six from Senapati, five from Kangpokpi, three from Tengnoupal, two from Tamenglong, and one from Pherzawl, it stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release added. 

The cumulative number of recovered cases reached 33,813, leaving the state's recovery rate at 81.94 per cent. The number of COVID-19 active cases in Manipur stands at 6,817, it added.

It further stated that air passengers who travelled to the state on May 11, 2021 by Indigo flight 6E-2251 in rows 31-37, on May 8 by air India AI-889 in rows 18-24 are to inform the Common Covid Control Room 1800-345-3818 or  respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) for further surveillance  and necessary testing.

Meanwhile, a total of 1355 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 523 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours.

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been inoculated reached 3,23,391.
