Manipur reports first COVID-19 death in four months

A total of 70 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Manipur, pushing the state's total positive cases to 1,37,943.

Manipur on Sunday reported one COVID-19 death, the first in four months, taking the state's COVID-19 death toll to 2,121. The latest COVID-19 victim in Manipur was a 75-year-old man from Imphal West who passed away on July 15.

He was not vaccinated and had comorbid conditions, according to the latest update by the state health department, Manipur reported COVID-19 death on March 18 last.

The state also recorded 70 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the state's total positive cases to 1,37,943. The day's positivity rate is 12 per cent.

Of the 70 new positive cases, 69 were from the general population while one was a personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) 1. From the general population, 29 new COVID-19 cases were from Imphal West, 27, four from Thoubal, three each from Ukhrul and Churachandpur, two from Kakching and one from Kamjong.

As per the latest update by the state health department, a total of 584 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Manipur on Sunday. Manipur has so far conducted 16,20,237 COVID-19 tests.

Manipur also recorded 27 new COVID-19 recoveries increasing the number of recovered cases to 1,35,330 and the recovery rate is 98.11 per cent. Manipur now has 490 COVID-19 active cases, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

Meanwhile, a total of 117 D-type oxygen cylinders and 14 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur as of July 16.

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 30,10,,810 (first dose: 16,03,129 second dose: 12,72,428 and precautionary dose: 1,35,253).

The cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state with the first dose is 62.6 per cent and for the second dose is 53.53 per cent, it mentioned.
