Manipur's COVID-19 confirmed tally has reached 20,950 as 180 more people tested positive for the infection while the death toll rose to 202 as the illness claimed two more lives in Imphal West on Wednesday, the state health department said.
Of the new confirmed cases, 176 persons, including 98 males and 78 females, are from the general population while four are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.
The positive cases from general population are from Imphal West - 68, Imphal East - 30, Thoubal - 22, Bishnupur- 15, Ukhrul - 1, Tamenglong - 14, Tengnoupal - 2, Kakching - 2, Kangpokpi- 12, Churachandpur - 5, Pherzawl - 1, Chandel - 2 and Jiribam - 2.
All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.
The number of recovered cases increased to 17,698 after a total of 164 persons were discharged on Wednesday and the recovery rate has improved to 84.44 per cent, the state health department said.
The cumulative number of active cases stands at 3,057 (General Population - 2,825 and Central Security Personnel 232), it added.
In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, a weekly media briefing on Covid-19 is being held at the Directorate of Health Services since November 6 to facilitate effective communication between the Health Department and the public.
Those who are in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. Contact Covid Control Room or CMO for testing, the health department stated.
