India’s COVID-19 tally surpasses 65 lakh-mark

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is 65,49,374 as 75,829 more people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 in a span of 24 hours.

India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed the 65 lakh-mark with an addition of 75,829 new infections being reported in a span of 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is 65,49,374, of which 9,37,625 are active cases and 55,09,967 recovered cases. As many as 940 people died due to COVID-19 in a span of a day, pushing the death toll to 1,01,782, it said. 

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,89,92,534 samples have been tested for COVID-19 as of October 3. Of these, 11,42,131 samples were tested on Saturday.

India has improved the testing capacity for COVID-19 infection from 1 in January to over 7.7 crore in October, the Health Ministry said.India has contributed to 21 per cent of global recovered cases and also shares 18.6 per cent in the total cases, as per the data released by the Health Ministry.

The national recovery rate has improved and now stands at 84.13 per cent.

COVID-19 cases recorded worldwide have now crossed 34.77 million and the death toll has climbed to 1,029,669.
