Manipur Health Director Rajo asks public to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour, as COVID-19 fourth wave hits Manipur

Manipur, Health director Dr K Rajo on Wednesday said the rapid rise in COVID-19 positive cases over the past few days signals a “minor COVID-19 fourth wave” and appealed to the public to remain confined to the COVID appropriate behaviour.

The Health director was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the launching of the 15-Day Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) at JNIMS in Imphal East.

Rajo reiterated that his directorate has already started taking up all the logistic steps and precautionary measures to meet any eventualities such as arrangement of COVID care centres ahead of the one functioning at RD Wing, Lamphel in Imphal West.

All hospitals and CMOs have been alerted and instructed to reserve beds for Covid patients, he said. Moreover, we have strengthened surveillance, contact tracing and immunisation, the director added.

Calling on the public to get fully vaccinated including the precautionary dose to stay safe, the director said, “The wave will not be big. Please stick to the Covid appropriate behaviour to contain it.”

Meanwhile, the state reported 22 new COVID-19 cases and zero death cases, pushing the state’s total positive cases to 1,37,345 and confining the death toll at 2,120 as of Wednesday.

Of the 22 positive cases, 11 were reported from Imphal West, five from Imphal East, two from Senapati and one each from Bishnupur, Chandel, Kakching and Ukhrul. The positivity rate is 8.1 per cent.

According to the latest update by the state health department, a total of 270 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Manipur on Wednesday. Manipur has so far conducted 16,15,602 COVID-19 tests.

The state also recorded five new COVID-19 recoveries increasing the number of recovered cases to 1,35,146 and the recovery rate is 98.40 per cent. Manipur now has 79 COVID-19 active cases, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

Meanwhile, a total of 147 oxygen cylinders and 53 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur as of July 5.

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 29,72,319 (first dose: 15,95,589 second dose: 12,61,998 and precautionary dose: 1,14,732).

The cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state with the first dose is 61.99 per cent and for the second dose is 53.26 per cent, it mentioned.
