Four curfew violators were found to be positive for COVID-19 during a random on the spot Covid-19 testing conducted among 29 curfew violators at Singjamei Chinga Crossing, Imphal West by the state police and officials of the Health department on Tuesday morning.
The random Covid testing was conducted as a part of the Aggressive Mass Covid-19 testing drive in Imphal West launched by the chief minister on Tuesday.
As per sources, the individuals tested positive for COVID-19 were issued fines and taken to Covid care centres while those found negative were also slapped fines for violating curfew restrictions. Police are serious about conducting similar drives at various parts of the city, said sources from the Police.
“This is a matter of very serious concern. To venture out irresponsibly during the curfew and endangering other people's lives will attract strict punishment under the law. Please stay home and do not venture unnecessarily,” wrote Chief Minister N Biren on his official Facebook page.
Meanwhile, another mass Covid testing programme organised by Social Welfare Club (SWC) with the support of the Health department staff was conducted at Heirangoithong, Imphal West.
The priority for testing was given to the people residing at the contentment zones and to the shopkeepers of the Heirangoithong area. Altogether, 119 individuals got tested and none of them were tested positive, said a member of SWC.
