Amid the spread of COVID-19 in Manipur, the first quarantine centre for public transport drivers in the state was opened at a school in Imphal East on Tuesday. Inaugurating the centre, MLA Th Lokeshwar urged the state government not to issue frequent government order as it leads to confusion among the public during the pandemic.
The quarantine centre for drivers was inaugurated at Kanan Devi Memorial School, Pangei Haotel, Imphal East by MLA Lokeshwar. He told the media that he assured the government to open one quarantine centre exclusively for drivers of Khundrakpam assembly constituency. He said as per his assurance the quarantine is being set up and inaugurated.
The quarantine center will have a capacity for 30 people and all food and water will be provided free. There are about 25 to 30 drivers in the constituency so the centre can accommodate the drivers easily and comfortably, said Lokeshwar.
Drivers of the constituency can stay at the center after informing RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Pangei, Haotel, Imphal East, the MLA said.
Lokeshwar said that the government should acknowledge the hard work of truck drivers and bus drivers which helped the people in the state to survive easily. Recently in the social media some of the drivers expressed how they are suffering while discharging their duty in order to save many stranded lives, he added.
The MLA said with the frequent changing of government orders people have been facing a big problem. He appealed the government not to issue orders frequently as it leads to confusion.
Lokeshwar said that as per protocol, stranded people who are staying at quarantine centre are set free to continue home quarantine after 14 days quarantine period without testing of COVID-19. He appealed to the government to conduct COVID-19 test for every one though the person might have stayed in quarantine centre for a period of 14 days.
