Manipur on Thursday witnessed a huge spike in daily COVID-19 cases as 448 more people tested positive for the disease, while two more patients died, according to official sources.
As per the latest update, the total confirmed caseload reached 1,28,679, while the death toll climbed to 2017 as of Thursday, a release from the COVID-19 common control room stated. It stated that the disease claimed one life each in Imphal East and Imphal West.
Of the new cases, 33 were personnel of the Central Armed Police Force, 201 from Imphal East, 72 from Imphal East, 66 from Churachandpur, 22 from Jiribam, 15 from Bishnupur, 11 from Thoubal, nine from Kakching, seven from Kangpokpi, four each from Tamenglong and Senapati and two each from Ukhrul and Chandel.
All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing of the positive cases are in place, the release stated.
The state's daily COVID-19 positivity rate rose to 15. 2 per cent, the release stated. It all stated that 66 new recoveries were reported, taking the total recoveries to 1,24,278, while the total active cases rose to 2,384. The recovery rate currently is 96.58 per cent.
The total number of people who have been administered the COVID vaccine reached 24,11,098 (first dose: 13,74,632, second dose: 10,26,082 and precautionary dose: 10384).
As of January 19, a total of 147 D-type oxygen cylinders and 14 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
