COVID-19 Surge in Northeast India: Assam, Mizoram, Tripura worst hit

Assam’s COVID-19 active caseload surged to 2,584, the highest among the eight states in Northeast India.

Assam, Mizoram, Tripura are the worst hit states in Northeast India as COVID-19 spread surges back, affecting all parts of India.

Assam’s COVID-19 active caseload surged to 2,584, the highest among the eight states in Northeast India. The state’s confirmed caseload has reached 7,27,909, while the death toll climbed to 7,992 with one more death reported on Wednesday, as per latest official update on Thursday.

Mizoram and Tripura have the second and third highest COVID-19 active caseload with 964 and 584 cases respectively.

COVID-19 has affected 2,30,229 total people in Mizoram, while its death toll stood at 706, with no new reports of any fatalities as of Wednesday.

Tripura’s confirmed caseload reached 1,01,544  and its death toll remained 923 as of Wednesday, according to the Health services.

Sikkim has, so far, reported 310 COVID-19 active caseload, while Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland have 268, 205, 131 and 42 active cases respectively as per latest update.  

Among all states and UT in India, West Bengal continued to have the highest number of COVID-19 active cases at 27,496, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu with 26,451 and 18,282 active cases respectively as of Thursday.

So far, COVID-19 has affected 4,36,89,989 total people in India as 20,139 total new positive cases were reported from across the country as per the latest official update on Thursday.

The country’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 5,25,557 as the illness claimed 38 more lives, while 4,30,28,356 total people have recovered since the onset of the pandemic in India.

Consequently, the total number of COVID-19 active cases in the country currently is 1,36,076, which accounts for 0.31 per cent of the total caseload.

So far, 86,81,64,348 total samples have been tested for Coronavirus across the country, while the total number of COVID vaccines doses administered nationwide has reached 1,99,27,27,559 as of Wednesday.
