COVID-19 cases in Mizoram rise to 22 as five more test positive

With the first COVID-19 case, which was reported on March 24, recovered and discharged from the hospital, there are 21 active cases.

Five more fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Mizoram, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 22, official sources said on Friday.

According to the state health department, of the five cases reported on Friday, four are Delhi returnees while the other one is a returnee from Gujarat.

A total of 340 samples were tested at Zoram Medical College in Aizawl late Thursday, of which three males and two females tested positive for COVID-19, the health department said. 

With the first COVID-19 case, which was reported on March 24, recovered and discharged from the hospital, there are 21 active cases.

Meanwhile, the health department source said that the state government is enhancing its measures to control the spread of the disease. As such, the concerned authorities of the state government are working hard to collect as many samples as they can for testing.

Last month, the Mizoram government had expressed its dire need for more quarantine centres. Mizoram is expecting more than 20,000 returnees.
