COVID-19: 235 new cases reported in Manipur, tally surges to 1,27,493

No COVID-19 death was reported in Manipur on Monday and the death toll remained at 2,015.

Manipur continued to witness an uptrend in daily COVID-19 cases as the state recorded more than 200 new cases for the second day on Monday with a positivity rate of 11.9 per cent, official sources said.

A total of 1,974 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Monday, of which 235 returned positive, taking the state's tally to 1,27,493. Manipur has so far conducted a total of 14,83,723 COVID-19 tests, as of Monday.

No COVID-19 death was reported in the state on Monday and the death toll remained at 2,015.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases, 220 were from the general population and 15 were personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

From the general population 102 new COVID-19 cases were from Imphal West, 65 from Imphal East, 12 from Thoubal, seven from Bishnupur, 10 from Kakching, four from Kangpokpi, one each from Kamjong, Tamenglong and Tengnoupal, two from Jiribam, six from Senapati, five from Chandel, and four from Churachandpur, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

The state also recorded 60 new recoveries on Monday, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 1,24,021 The state's recovery rate is 97.28 per cent while the number of active cases surged to 1,457, the release stated.

The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine reached 23,87,436 (first dose: 13,61,821 second dose: 10,19,550 and precautionary dose: 6,065).

As of January 16, a total of  289 D-type oxygen cylinders and 56 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
