52 more children test positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram

A total of 203 people of the 3,214 samples tested in the last 24 hours tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday in Mizoram.

Mizoram has been witnessing a steady rise in the number of children infected by Coronavirus. The state on Wednesday reported 52 new COVID-19 positive cases among children, while a total of 203 people of the 3,214 samples tested in the last 24 hours tested positive for the infection.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the state reached 14,196, and the positivity rate rose to 6.31 per cent, as per the latest updates by the state health department. With it, Mizoram has 3,370 active cases, while 10,769 people have recovered. The recovery rate reached 75.86 per cent.

Of the new positive cases, Aizawl district reported the highest with 158 positive cases, followed by Lunglei and Kolasib districts with 24 and 11 respectively.

The COVID-19 death toll in the state stood at 57 with no new reports of deaths in the state as of date. It may be recalled that Mizoram reported its first COVID-19 related death on October 28, 2020, while the first positive cases was reported on March 24.

Meanwhile, 52,535 people have been fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, while in all 2,74,383 people have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the state.

While the state witnessed a slow spread of the disease in the first wave, it witnessed an alarming surge in new positive cases and fatalities in the second wave of the pandemic.
