Fishery project launched to boost fish production, rural economy in Nagaland

The approved cost of the fishery project initiated by the Nagaland Fishery Department under the Integrated Animal Husbandry Scheme is Rs 334 lakh.

In the effort to generate self-employment, the Nagaland government has launched a fishery project at Lamhai Dunki village in Peren District of the state, with the help of the Development of North Eastern Region Ministry (DoNER).

The approved cost of the fishery project initiated by the Nagaland Fishery Department under the Integrated Animal Husbandry Scheme is Rs 334 lakh. Of it, the North Eastern Council’s share is Rs 300.60 lakh and state’s share is Rs. 33.40 lakh, the DoNER ministry stated in a release.

The objective is to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural populace, to generate sustainable employment opportunities among the village communities and unemployed youths through fishery-related activities.

The project also aims to promote modern scientific technologies for effective management and optimum utilisation, increase fish production and reduce demand and supply gap. From this project, the average fish production is nearly 30,753 kg, and the annual turnover is approx Rs 430 lakh, the ministry added.
