'Books inevitable in transforming society’

A one-day symposium on ‘Role of Book in National Development’ was organised in connection with the observance of ‘Khongjom Day’ and World Book and Copyright Day on Saturday.

Head of Ancient History and Archaeology department, Manipur University O Ranjit has appealed to all sections of the society to cultivate reading habits since books are inevitable in transforming a society.

He was speaking at the inaugural of a one-day symposium on ‘Role of Book in National Development’ organised in connection with the observance of ‘Khongjom Day’ and World Book and Copyright Day on Saturday.  Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University and the University’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ Cell organised the symposium at the department premises.

Speaking at the event, HOD, Library and Information Science Ch Ibohal said that one can get new ideas, creativity, wisdom and knowledge from books. He also emphasised on the need for one to pick up good books.

Prior to the symposium, attendees offered floral tributes to heroes of Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to those who laid down their lives in the war.

Students and research scholars of Manipur University took part in the symposium. Moderator and chief guest of the function and jury members later distributed certificates and prizes to the participants.
