The non-SoO Kuki militant outfit, Kuki National Front (KNF) has announced total shutdown on September 13 to observe Kuki Black Day by the Kuki community in all Kuki-dominated areas of Manipur and other states.
A release by information and publicity secretary of the outfit Jerry Vaiphei stated that the decision to impose a total shutdown has been taken to pay tribute to the departed souls who had been killed by the NSCN (I-M).
All commercial activities, administrative functioning, and educational institutions shall be closed from midnight of September 12 till midnight of September 13. However, most essential emergency services such as medical shall be exempted from the purview of the shutdown, it stated.
The outfit stated that from 1992 to 1997, more than thousands of innocent Kukis, including women and children were killed, 360 Kuki villages were uprooted and more than lakh of innocent Kukis were displaced and became refugees in their own land. As such September 13 became the greatest lamentation in Kuki history.
“The outfit has kept silent thus far to bring back peace and justice between the two communities following the words of our former president late Nehkholun Kipgen. However, we will no longer keep silent over such brutality upon the Kukis but respond accordingly. KNF (non-SoO) group proclaimed to sacrifice our lives for the Kuki ancestral land and as decided we will continue to observe Kuki Black Day every year till justice prevails,” stated KNF.
It continued that the day will be observed as a remembrance and mourning for our families and relatives whose dear and love ones were mercilessly slaughtered during the Kuki genocide perpetrated by the NSCN (I-M).
The Kuki Black Day (Sahnit Ni) on September 13 shall be respected by every community as it is the greatest lamentation day of the Kukis. If any organisation or individual is found to be against the observation of the day, direct action will be initiated while KNF will not be responsible for such action, it added.
