The United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSoM) along with deputy commissioner Imphal west will be organising a mass Covid-19 vaccination programme for teaching and non-teaching staff of schools in Imphal West at Kindergarten Montessori School Takyel Kolom Leikai on Sunday.
The vaccination will begin at 10.30 am and it will cover staff of both private and government schools and their family members as well, UARSoM stated in a release on Friday.
UARSoM appealed to all the staff and non-teaching staff of the schools to get vaccinated on the day. The release stated that the vaccination programme will be an important step in the efforts undertaken by the state government to reopen the schools in the state at the earliest.
UARSoM also appealed to all the schools to extend cooperation to the initiatives of the government to reopen the schools which have remained closed due to the pandemic.
The statement by UARSoM comes a day after the state government asked the director of University and Higher Education, registrars of Dhanamanjuri and Manipur Technical University, controller of Technical Education and joint director SCERT Manipur to submit a detailed report on level of vaccination in each school and college at the earliest.
In a letter issued on Thursday, commissioner of Higher Education and Technical Education S M Harekrishna asked the heads of the departments concerned to impress upon both teaching and non teaching staff under their departments for vaccination at the earliest, if not done yet.
Among various measures, vaccination of all teaching and non teaching staff (preferably in two doses) may also be considered to ensure safety in schools and colleges, the letter stated.
While the government is contemplating various modalities for opening educational institutions, it is also imperative that it is done after taking into consideration all the safety measures required to be taken up prior to the opening, the letter added.
