Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) chief Bhaichung Bhutia expressed the need to introduce Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Sikkim being a border state and slammed Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for failing to raise the issue with the Centre during his visit to New Delhi.
Several reports quoted India’s football icon as saying, "It is unfortunate that our CM did not think of raising the demand for the introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Sikkim".
In other Northeaster states of India, Sikkim, being a border state, should also have ILP in place, said the former footballer, who founded the HSP on May 31, 2018.
The state of Sikkim borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the north and northeast, Bhutan in the east and Nepal in the west. Sikkim is also close to India's Siliguri near Bangladesh.
