India continues to witness downtrend in COVID-19 as daily positive tally drops below 40000-mark

India’s COVID-19 downtrend continued on Tuesday with new daily infection cases dropping below 40000-mark at 30,549, according to the latest update by the Union Home Ministry

The country’s active caseload stood at 4,04,958, constituting 1.28 per cent of the total confirmed tally which reached 3,17,25,455 as of Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours, 38,887 patients recovered and the total recoveries across the country reached 3,08,96,354 till date. The recovery rate improved to 97.38 per cent.

The country’s COVID-19 death toll reached 4,25,228 with the report of 420 deaths due to the disease in the last 24 hours.

The weekly positivity rate remained below five per cent at 2.39 per cent. The saily positivity rate also remained below five per cent at 1.85 per cent.

All across the country, testing capacity has been substantially ramped up and a total of over 47.12 crore tests have been conducted so far.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive has been increased and 47,78,00,587 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

Five states namely Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have administered more than 1 crore cumulative doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the age group 18-44 years.

Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand and West Bengal have vaccinated more than 10 lakh beneficiaries of the age group 18-44 years for the first dose of COVID vaccine, the Health Ministry stated in a release.
