An agitated mob has set Moreh Police commando complex on fire after commando personnel allegedly beat a man and put him at Moreh Police station for violating curfew.
As per sources, one Mapao who worked at Telecom Moreh was stopped in front of SBI Moreh around 4.30 pm by commando personnel who were on duty. Mapao who alleged the commando personnel of obstructing and beating him while he was going to work, called help on his phone.
A huge mob gathered shortly at the Police Station. When Police told the mob that they are free to take Mapao out of the station, they reportedly declined the offer and demanded to handover the commando personnel involved in beating and arresting him.
In the late evening, a large mob stormed the commando complex and started kicking down the gate. The mob also threw burning tires into the complex and started the fire, sources said.
Sources said that the commando barrack and bunkers caught fire while the police personnel had no option but to lock the gate and stay inside.
Mapao is still inside the police station at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, sources said that SP Tengnoupal has given verbal assurance that the SI and the subordinate officers involved in the incident shall be taken out of Moreh by tomorrow. He has reportedly assured that the matter concerning OC commando shall be discussed on Tuesday in the presence of SP Tengnoupal and district administration as desired by the aggrieved party.
