The United Committee on Delivery Executives, Manipur on Friday demanded a clarification on what kinds of e-commerce stores are permitted, after its delivery executives were detained by police, leading to confusion over the permitted activities during the ongoing curfew.

As per the order issued by the chief secretary Rajesh Kumar on July 19, the e-commerce delivery services were exempted from the curfew by the government of Manipur, stated a release issued by Committee. Following the order, Manipur e-commerce stores started their services of delivering essential day-to-day items, including vegetables, medicine, grocery items, sanitary items, baby foods, etc., the Committee stated.

“However, our delivery executives are being detained by police personnel stating that local e-commerce businesses are not permitted from resuming their services except for big e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Myntra, etc. These acts of the police personnel are unreasonable and illogical as they go against the notification issued by the government of Manipur,” it stated.

This has created confusion over what kind of e-commerce stores are permitted and which ones are not, it added.

The committee demanded transparency in this matter while reminding that they are risking their lives to assist the public during the pandemic by delivering only the essential items to its customers.

“All our employees are regularly tested for COVID-19, and most of them are vaccinated. They also follow strict SOPs in delivering our services," the Committee stated.

It further appealed to DGP Manipur and the state government to look into the matter and address the issue at the earliest.

The United Committee on Delivery Executives, Manipur comprises of managing director, Freshcart store Joychand Moirangthem; co-founder and director, Food Wifi Bickychand; co-founder and managing director, SF Delivery Vitoo Oinam; managing director, Taste of Imphal Leishana Laishram and business lead, Book tou Robert Salam.
