The Assam government has decided to impose complete lockdown in the entire Kamrup Metropolitan district from June 28 midnight for two weeks in the wake of rising number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from the Guwahati in the district.
Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma said in a press conference in Guwahati today that a sharp increase in COVID-19 patients in Guwahati since June 15 compelled the government to take the decision on complete lockdown.
The minister, however, said that pharmacies and medical shops will remain open.
“Night curfew will also be imposed in the state while weekend lockdown on Saturdays and Sundays will be enforced in urban areas,” he said.
Assam is the worst hit state in the Northeast with over 6,300 cases and nine fatalities so far according to the Health Ministry.
