A 17-year-old girl whose mother passed away due to COVID-19 was presented monetary aid and essential food items by Like Minded Group (LMG) on Monday. The young girl from Thoubal had lost her father a decade ago in an accident, while her mother recently succumbed to COVID-19.
Advisor to LMG, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai and its secretary Sorokhaibam Ojit handed over the aid to the girl at her residence. Besides the monetary aid of Rs 16,000, the essential food items presented to her included 10 kg rice, a litre of cooking oil, five kg potatoes, a kg of onions, two kg of sugar, a pack of salt, one kg of lentils and 10 packets of biscuits.
Sorokhaibam Ojit stated that LMG was founded on May 26 with the objective of helping the poor and needy sections of society and today’s aid presentation was the first initiative taken up by the group.
“After the loss of her father, the ancestral family land was sold in bits for the treatment of her ailing mother, and now all that is left for her is the piece of land where her house stands,” Sorokhaibam Ojit continued, adding an appeal to the department concerned to make arrangements for the girl to stand on her own feet.
Wangkhemcha Shyamjai also said that there is nothing more worthy than helping others in their times of need. And LMG will bring up the plight of the girl in a meeting with the chief minister and ask for further assistance from the side of the government, he added.
