Amid the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic, littering by returnees has become one of the health concerns. Showing the way to maintain hygiene and proper waste disposal, the staff of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Tamenglong on Monday, collected and disposed of the trash littered by the returnees at the Youth Hostel at Khuman Lampak in Imphal.

DRDA staff who were deputed in Imphal to look after the returnees cleaned and disinfected the hostel on Monday.

A DRDA official told the Imphal Free Press that returnees from Tamenglong and Noney districts stayed overnight at the hostel as their scheduled pick up vehicles did not reach Imphal in time.

“The returnees littered wastes here and there instead of using dustbins. We want everyone to maintain cleanliness and follow waste disposal rules for the safety of all,” the official told IFP.

The hostel has been disinfected to make it safe for those who are returning home from other states, the official said and appealed to the quarantine-bound returnees to maintain and follow proper health and hygiene protocols to combat the virus effectively.
