Imphal West continues to log highest single-day COVID-19 spike in Manipur

Manipur on Sunday reported 677 new COVID-19 positive cases and 16 more deaths due to COVID-19.

Imphal West district continued to report the highest single-day COVID-19 spike in Manipur with 263 new positive cases of the infection on Sunday. In all, the state reported 677 new positive cases and 16 more COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed caseload to 39,729 and the death toll to 578, official sources said.

Of the 677 new COVID-19 positive cases, 665 are from the general population, while 12 personnel are from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room.

As per the release, Imphal East reported 159 new COVID-19 positive cases, 71 new cases were reported from Kakching, 70 from Churachandpur, 33 from ThoubaI, 24 from Bishnupur, 17 from Kangpokpi, 12 from Tamenglong, five each from Chandel and Senapati, and two each from Ukhrul, Tengnoupal and Kamjong. The other remaining cases are from the CAPF.


All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, additional director and spokesperson of the state health department Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang stated in the release.

Imphal West also reported nine more COVID-19 fatalities, while two deaths were reported from Churachandpur and one each from Bishnupur, Imphal East, Thoubal and Ukhrul, the release stated.

Meanwhile, 399 more recoveries pushed the state's cumulative number of COVID-19 recovered cases to 32,674. The recovery rate is 82.24  per cent.

Manipur has 6,477 COVID-19 active cases as of Sunday. 


The state health department further informed that a total of 1,488 D type oxygen cylinders and 568 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state in a span of 24 hours. 

As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in Manipur reached 3,09,596.
