Lockdown in the national capital has been extended for another week

The COVID-19 induced lockdown in the national capital has been extended for another week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday.

"Lockdown in Delhi is being extended by one week," Kejriwal posted on Twitter. 

The Delhi government had extended the lockdown in the national capital till May 3 on April 25 after a six-day lockdown was announced on April 19. The ongoing lockdown is imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.

On Friday, the national capital recorded 27,047 new COVID-19 cases and 375 deaths, pushing the city's COVID-19 tally to 11,49,333 and the death toll to 16,147, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Delhi now has 99,361 COVID-19 active cases while 10,33,825 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the national capital, as per the ministry's data.
