COVID-19 Phase-3 vaccination to be delayed in Meghalaya

COVID-19 vaccination for persons of 18 years and above will be delayed as Meghalaya is awaiting vaccine vials from SII, Pune.

The third phase of the national vaccination programme against COVID-19 which is scheduled to begin on May 1 will be delayed in Meghalaya as the state is awaiting vaccine vials from Serum Institute of India (SII), Pune. 

State health and family welfare department principal secretary in-charge Sampath Kumar on Wednesday issued a statement stating that the exact date for the commencement of the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination will be notified in due course.

COVID-19 vaccination for persons of 18 years and above is scheduled to commence from May 1.

“The state has placed an order for an adequate number of vaccines with the Serum Institute of India, Pune and their delivery schedule is still awaited,” Kumar stated. 

Online registration for vaccination will continue as planned. Residents in the 18-44 years age group are encouraged to actively register themselves for vaccination, Kumar added.

Stating that vaccination will be done only after online registration, the principal secretary in-charge stated that spot registration will not be permitted for the 18-44 years age group as per the existing orders.

Meanwhile, vaccination for already eligible priority groups i.e. healthcare workers, frontline workers and citizens above 45 years of age will continue as usual at the designated vaccination centres.
