New COVID-19 positive tally soars to 175 in Manipur
Manipur on Tuesday reported the highest single-day spike in 2021 and three more deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Manipur on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day COVID-19 spike in 2021 as 175 more people tested postive for the infection, while three more succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, the state health department sources said.

With the surge in the new positive cases from 146 on Monday to 175 on Tuesday, the state's cumulative COVID-19 active case rose above the record 1000-mark at 1032, and the positive caseload reached 30,742, stated a release from the Common COVID-19 Control Room in Imphal on Tuesday.

As many as 29,317 people in the state have recovered from the illness with 50 more recoveries reported on Tuesday, while the COVID-19 death toll stood at 393.

Of the new COVID-19 positive cases, three are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force.

Imphal West reported an alarming rise of 84 new COVID-19 positive cases, the highest among the districts in 2021, the release stated.

Twenty-nine new cases are from Imphal East, 26 from Bishnupur, nine from Kakching, eight from Senapati, seven from Churachandpur, three each from Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Ukhrul, two from Chandel and one from Tengnoupal, the release added.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional director and spokesperson, Manipur Health Department, stated in the release.

The case recovery rate fell to 95.36 per cent from 95.74 per cent on Monday, the release stated.

The deaths included one 64-year-old female and 42-years-old male from Imphal West and one 75-year-old female from Imphal East.

Air passengers who travelled to the state on April 25 by Indigo flight No 6E-6181 in rows 16-21 and 6E-21 in rows 29-35 are to inform the Common COVID-19 Control Room No 18003453818 or respective district surveillance officers immediately, the release added.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state reached 1,39,457.

All persons above 45 years are advised to get vaccinated immediately at vaccine centres of RIMS, JNIMS, District hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and select private hospitals, the release added.
